A possible stopgap is to reduce the maximum number of characters allowed for the filename in the same settings tab. Going from 200 (default) to 25 seems ok as the number of dashes is unlikely to go over 4 which Internet Explorer seems to be able to handle.

I should note that this problem does not effect Firefox, Safari or Chrome, don't know about Opera.

Only discovered this recently as I use a Mac.

If you select "Use entry title as filename" on Configure Weblog > Entry Pages, the filename will replace spaces with a dash e.g.

"This is a title"

would become:

this-is-a-title.htm

If the filename is too long e.g. includes too many dashes, the number differs depending on the directory structure, Internet Explorer will fail to load the page.

The simple solution seems to be a replacement of dashes with underscores, but this requires changes to the source code, so only Bob can solve this.

This hack shows how to write the last 6 posts in full to the index page.. and then requests the last 7 to get the link for the one just before the last six.... I put both requests in so you could see how it worked.

Yeah, I knew about this.  It's been this way since the beginning.  Yeah, it might be a bug.
The behaviour is exactly as you say. 
Funny though, if I "republish all" then it works.  TAMB must itself delete the contents of the media folder before copying.
On the bright side, it also works if you rename the pic in the media folder using TAMB, and use the entry editor to re-insert the image already in the \media folder into the post (after deleting the old-named image that's already there.)

Here's my theory on this:
TAMB stores everything I do for my blog in the HSQL db.  The FTP client is kind of secondary to TAMB, merely doing as it's instructed - either publishing entries from the database, or if the flag is checked, then deleting via FTP as it deletes from the database.  So I suspect that anything you uploaded via Filezilla would be safe.
That said, I don't use the feature myself.  Having the remnants of the occasional post left behind doesn't bother me;  if it's sensitive info then I just go in and get rid of it myself.
And I enjoy the occasional "republish all"  It's very nerve-wracking!  I usually first rename my blog folder on the web server - just in case.
